 John 14

In the Bible we see that Jesus uses metaphors very frequently. This is because it is difficult, if possible, for us to understand God’s almighty power with our very limited knowledge. It is like we going back and trying to explain modern technology to the people of Han or Tang dynasty. They would have trouble understanding us because they haven’t seen it. In order to make us understand, Jesus uses many simple examples in our lives to explain His kingdom to us.

Jesus says, “where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later” (John 13:36) and “if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be so with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14: 3). He lives in us, and we in Him. He sends advocate for us to help us lay down ourselves so that the Holy Spirit can take control of our lives. If we still live by the old self, if we still love the world more than God, and if we drift with the tide, our spiritual lives would never grow.

We had a very good quality worship in the service today. However, none of the members in the team had the confidence of leading such a worship when they were first gathered, because none of them was music majored. Under the encouragement and support of the elder Yeh, they do not look at their limits but simply rely on God. They devoted themselves and practiced very hard, and now God are using every member in the worship team to do great works.

Oftentimes we thought we don’t have the gift or the ability, and forget that God has all the sovereignty, and nothing is impossible for Him. If we keep saying that we can’t or we are not good enough, it is actually an offence against God, because we are all created in His image. He does not create useless people. Everybody has a gift. We should learn as much as we can and absorb like a sponge instead of acting like a rock. Also, we should be like a ball, which can roll on itself with just a little push, instead of a squarely wood that only moves so little with every push. God has a wonderful purpose for every one of us, and if we are willing and obedient, God will use and bless us.
